Color Sort is a liquid sorting puzzle where you pour colors between tubes, complete matching stacks, clear levels, and unlock new tube and background styles.
Color Sort is a liquid-sorting puzzle game where you move colored water between tubes until the mixed layers are reorganized into complete matching stacks. Each level begins with several colors spread across multiple containers, and your objective is to rearrange them without creating a layout that blocks your remaining moves. The game also includes cosmetic tube and background options that can be purchased through its in-game store.
This version of Color Sort was developed by Y8 Studio and added to Y8 on May 17, 2022. It is a single-player WebGL puzzle designed around mouse or touchscreen interaction.
The board contains several tubes filled with layers of different colored liquid. Your task is to move the liquid between containers and gradually separate the mixed colors.
A successful solution leaves the colors grouped into complete stacks rather than scattered across several tubes. Because each move changes which layers are exposed, the order of your pours matters. Moving one color may reveal another useful layer underneath, while a poorly planned move can make the remaining colors harder to organize.
Levels are completed by creating the required full color stacks. The game then presents another sorting puzzle with a different arrangement to solve.
Color Sort is designed for mouse and touchscreen play. Y8 identifies both mouse interaction and touchscreen support for the game.
Open tubes are useful because they give you somewhere to temporarily move a color that is blocking another layer. If every container becomes filled with mixed colors, it can become much harder to separate the remaining stacks.
Instead of filling an empty tube immediately, think about what it could help uncover. Moving one top layer into temporary space may reveal a matching color elsewhere and create a more productive sequence of moves.
The strongest use of an open tube is usually temporary. Move a blocking color there, reorganize the layers underneath, and reuse the space once the temporary stack can be merged somewhere else.
A completed color stack simplifies the puzzle because it reduces the number of mixed layers you still need to manage. When several sections of the same color are accessible, bringing them together can be more useful than spreading your attention across every color at once.
However, do not force a completion if it requires sacrificing all of your working space. Sometimes leaving one color unfinished temporarily gives you enough flexibility to expose another important layer first.
The visible move is not always the most useful move. Before pouring, check which color will become exposed in the source tube and whether that newly revealed layer can be used immediately.
For example, moving a blue layer may be valuable not because of the blue itself, but because it reveals a red layer that can then be combined with another red stack. Thinking in short sequences helps prevent unnecessary backtracking.
A useful question before each move is: What will this pour reveal? If the answer creates another useful move, the sequence is usually more productive.
Color Sort includes cosmetic progression in addition to the puzzles. Y8 specifically documents a game store where you can purchase new tube designs and backgrounds. These changes affect the presentation rather than the basic sorting objective.
The cosmetic system gives completed play another purpose beyond simply moving to the next puzzle. You can change how the tubes and surrounding game area look while keeping the same core liquid-sorting mechanics.
An open container gives you room to separate colors temporarily. Filling every available space can leave fewer ways to uncover deeper layers.
If two exposed sections can be brought together without blocking another important move, combining them reduces the number of separate pieces you need to manage.
The layer revealed after a move can be more important than the liquid you are moving. Use pours that expose colors you can immediately organize.
Moving the same color repeatedly between tubes without exposing anything new uses space without improving the board. Each move should ideally complete a group, expose a useful layer, or create working room.
Once a color is fully organized, avoid disturbing it unless the puzzle specifically requires another rearrangement. Reducing the number of active colors makes the remaining board easier to read.

Yes. The game includes a store with additional tube designs and backgrounds.
It is a single-player color-matching and logic puzzle built around sorting layers of colored liquid between tubes.
Color Sort is built around careful sequencing rather than fast reactions. Preserve enough working space to separate mixed layers, look at what each pour will reveal, combine matching colors when the opportunity is useful, and avoid moves that simply shift the same problem elsewhere. As the layouts become more complicated, planning several pours ahead becomes the most reliable way to turn a mixed collection of tubes into complete color stacks.
