Paper.io 2 is a territory game where you draw loops, capture land, cut rival trails, unlock skins, and expand carefully without getting eliminated.
Paper.io 2 is a territory-capture .io game where you move around an open arena, draw a colored trail outside your safe zone, and reconnect that trail to your territory to claim the enclosed area. The larger your territory becomes, the closer you get to controlling the map—but leaving your land exposes your trail, and another player can eliminate you by cutting through it.
Paper.io 2 was created by Voodoo. The mobile versions launched in 2018, while the HTML5 browser edition followed in March 2019. Current versions also include unlockable skins and online competitive play.
You begin with a small patch of territory in your own color. Moving inside this area is relatively safe. As soon as you cross its border, however, your character starts drawing a trail behind you.
To capture new land, travel through neutral space or another player's territory and return to your existing color. The area surrounded by your route becomes part of your territory. Larger loops can claim more land at once, but they also leave your trail exposed for longer.
Opponents follow the same rules. If you reach another player's exposed trail before they reconnect with their territory, you can eliminate them. Your own exposed trail can be attacked in exactly the same way, making expansion a constant balance between speed, ambition, and safety.
The current browser versions support several movement methods. Poki documents WASD, Arrow Keys, and joystick-style movement, while CrazyGames also supports mouse steering.
The trail is both the tool you use to expand and your biggest weakness. While you remain inside your own territory, opponents cannot simply eliminate you by touching an exposed line because there is no trail outside your safe zone.
The moment you leave, every extra second spent outside increases the chance that another player reaches your line. This is why extremely large loops can be dangerous even when they would capture a huge amount of territory.
Short loops provide less territory per move but reduce exposure. Once nearby opponents have been eliminated or moved away, you can safely attempt larger captures.
When another player leaves their territory, watch the trail behind them. Reaching that exposed line before they reconnect eliminates the opponent. CrazyGames and Poki both identify cutting rival trails as one of the game's central competitive mechanics.
Do not chase every exposed trail automatically. If reaching it requires you to create an even longer vulnerable line of your own, the attack can become more dangerous for you than for your target.
The strongest opportunities usually appear when an opponent travels close to your existing territory. You can make a short attack, cut the line, and quickly return to safety.
You are not limited to unclaimed parts of the arena. Your loops can travel through areas already painted by another player, allowing you to take sections of their territory when you successfully reconnect with your own.
This creates a direct territorial battle even when neither player is eliminated. Cutting a section from a large rival can reduce their control while increasing yours in the same move.
When attacking another player's land, keep an escape route in mind. Expanding deep into hostile territory usually creates a longer exposed trail and gives that player a clear reason to target you.
Paper.io 2 includes cosmetic skins that change the appearance of your character. CrazyGames documents unlockable skins tied to completing objectives and eliminating opponents, while current official mobile listings advertise more than 100 collectible skins.
These cosmetics do not change the fundamental territory rules. Your success still depends on the size and safety of your loops, how quickly you recognize exposed enemy trails, and how well you protect your own territory.
Reaching complete control is possible, although it is difficult because every expansion exposes your trail. CrazyGames specifically documents 100% map control as achievable.
As your territory becomes larger, protecting its entire border becomes harder. Working outward from safer edges and avoiding unnecessarily long cuts through the middle can make late-game expansion more manageable.
During the opening part of a match, nearby opponents may be difficult to predict. Short loops reduce how long your trail remains exposed while still steadily increasing your territory.
The safest eliminations are usually the ones that require only a short trip outside your own area. You can cut the opponent and return before another player has much time to attack your trail.
A giant loop may look like the fastest way to increase your score, but the entire attempt is lost if someone cuts your line before you return. Capture only as much territory as you can reasonably protect during the move.
CrazyGames recommends using map edges to reduce exposure while expanding. An edge removes one direction from which territory needs to be surrounded, making some captures easier to manage.
If another player is already moving close to your border, wait or expand in another direction. Starting a large loop directly beside an opponent gives them an obvious target.
You do not need to complete the largest possible shape every time. If another player begins moving toward your exposed trail, reconnect with your territory sooner and secure a smaller capture.

Your goal is to claim as much of the arena as possible by drawing loops outside your territory and safely reconnecting them to your existing area.
Leave your colored area, move around the space you want to claim, and reconnect with your territory. The enclosed section is then filled with your color.
Cross an opponent's exposed trail while they are outside their safe territory. If another player reaches your trail first, you can be eliminated instead.
Supported browser controls include WASD, the Arrow Keys, and mouse or joystick-style steering depending on the version.
Paper.io 2 was developed by Voodoo.
Paper.io 2 rewards players who balance expansion with survival. Short loops keep your trail safer, larger captures increase territory faster, and exposed rivals create opportunities for elimination. Watch the arena before leaving your territory, cut enemy trails when the risk is low, and return home early when a large capture becomes too dangerous.
