Cursed Treasure is a tower defense game where you build and upgrade towers, cast spells, manage resources, and stop heroes from stealing your gems.
Cursed Treasure, originally released as Cursed Treasure: Don’t Touch My Gems!, is a tower defense strategy game by IriySoft. Instead of defending a kingdom from monsters, you play the villain and protect a collection of gems from waves of heroes. Build Orc Dens, Undead Crypts, and Demon Temples beside the enemy path, upgrade them as they gain experience, cast spells when defenses begin to fail, and stop thieves before they carry your treasure off the map.
The game combines traditional tower defense with terrain restrictions and permanent skill progression. Each tower family belongs on a particular type of ground, while successful missions award experience that lets you strengthen your defenses for later stages.
Every stage contains a path leading to the cave where your gems are stored. Enemy waves travel along that route, enter the cave, grab a gem, and then attempt to carry it back toward the entrance. Your towers automatically attack enemies that enter their range.
A thief touching a gem does not immediately mean the treasure is permanently lost. If your defenses destroy that enemy before it escapes, the dropped gem remains on the map and can still be protected. However, another enemy can pick it up and continue carrying it toward the exit.
You can complete a stage as long as at least one gem survives, but stronger ratings require better defense. An Excellent result means finishing without losing a gem, while Brilliant requires preventing enemies from touching a gem at all.
Cursed Treasure has three basic tower families, and each one is tied to a specific terrain type. This prevents you from filling every useful position with the same defense and makes the map itself part of your strategy.
| Tower | Faction | Terrain | Basic Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Den | Orcs | Grass | Fires fast arrows at enemies within range. |
| Crypt | Undead | Snow | Stores magical charges and launches homing attacks. |
| Temple | Demons | Rock | Uses powerful short-range magical attacks. |
High Ground is especially valuable because any of the three basic tower types can be placed there, and towers positioned on it receive battlefield advantages. That makes these locations useful when you need greater freedom over which tower family covers an important section of the road.
Towers do not become stronger simply because you have enough gold. They also earn individual experience by participating in combat. Once a tower reaches the required experience threshold, you can spend gold to increase its level.
The upgrade system becomes more interesting at level 4, when each basic tower can branch into one of two specialized forms. Continuing to improve that tower eventually leads to another advanced upgrade at level 7. These branches give the same basic tower family different tactical roles, including effects such as area damage, critical attacks, status effects, or stronger specialized attacks.
Because tower experience matters, a strong position can become increasingly valuable during a level. A tower covering a long or repeated section of the route has more opportunities to attack, gain experience, and reach its advanced upgrades.
Gold is the main construction resource. Defeating enemies gives you more gold, which can be spent on new towers and upgrades. Mana is used for spells and gradually replenishes during a stage.
This creates two layers of defense. Towers provide continuous automatic damage, while mana gives you a limited way to intervene when the normal defense is not enough. Spending every resource immediately can leave you without an answer when a later wave pushes farther toward the gems.
The original game provides three spells, each solving a different problem.
Cut Out changes the battlefield itself, making it useful when trees occupy an otherwise valuable defensive position. Frenzy is better suited to periods when many existing towers are already engaging enemies. Meteor provides immediate damage when a dangerous target or group is close to breaking through.
Completing stages gives your player profile experience in addition to the individual experience earned by towers during a mission. Leveling up provides skill points that can be invested across Orc, Undead, and Demon upgrade trees. These upgrades affect tower families, spells, resources, and other defensive bonuses.
This progression system means replaying an earlier mission can feel different after investing skill points. A level that was difficult with basic abilities may become easier once your preferred tower type or resource economy has been strengthened.
The HTML5 port can be played primarily with the mouse and also includes keyboard shortcuts for frequently used actions. Kongregate lists the game as mouse-controlled and documents additional hotkeys added to the port.
A tower becomes more efficient when enemies remain inside its range for longer. Corners and locations beside longer path sections can give the same tower more opportunities to attack and gain experience.
High Ground accepts any tower type, unlike normal grass, snow, and rock tiles. Use these flexible spaces for a tower that fills a weakness in your current defense rather than automatically placing whichever type is most common nearby.
Towers gain experience through combat. A well-positioned tower that attacks wave after wave is a better upgrade candidate than one placed where only a few enemies enter its range.
Meteor gives you direct battlefield damage. Keeping enough mana available can help when enemies survive your normal tower line and approach the gem cave or begin escaping with treasure.
Frenzy improves your towers' firing rate temporarily. Activating it during a dense wave passing through several defensive zones gives more towers an opportunity to benefit from the effect.
Cut Out costs mana, so avoid removing trees just because a tile is available. Clear a forest when the newly opened position gives meaningful coverage of the enemy route.

Your objective is to stop waves of heroes from stealing the gems stored in your cave. Enemies that grab a gem attempt to carry it back to the edge of the level.
The three basic towers are the Orc Den, Undead Crypt, and Demon Temple. They normally require grass, snow, and rock terrain respectively.
Towers gain experience while fighting. Once enough experience has been earned, you can spend gold to level them up, with specialized upgrade branches becoming available as they progress.
The three spells are Cut Out, Frenzy, and Meteor. They are used to clear forest tiles, temporarily increase tower firing speed, and directly damage enemies.
Cursed Treasure was developed by IriySoft. The original Flash game dates to 2010, and IriySoft later released an HTML5 port for modern browser play.
Cursed Treasure adds terrain planning, tower experience, branching upgrades, spells, and permanent skills to the familiar tower defense formula. Success comes from building the right tower on the right terrain, improving defenses that receive plenty of combat experience, saving mana for important moments, and stopping gem carriers before they escape. Completing a mission may only require one surviving gem, but preventing every hero from even touching your treasure requires much tighter tower placement and resource management.
