Play Sports Heads Soccer in fast 1v1 matches, score with headers and volleys, collect power-ups, defend your goal, and defeat every opponent.
Sports Heads Soccer, also widely known as Sports Heads: Football, is a 1v1 arcade soccer game from Mousebreaker. Instead of controlling an entire team, you control one oversized footballer and try to score more goals than the opponent. You can move across the small pitch, jump for headers, kick volleys, defend your goal, and hit power-ups that can change the flow of a match.
Sports Heads Soccer strips football down to a direct duel between two players. There are no formations or passing sequences to manage. The ball constantly moves between two goals, and your job is to position your character underneath it, challenge for aerial balls, and find openings to score.
The original Sports Heads: Football was developed by Mousebreaker and released in 2011. Its single-player challenge asks you to defeat 10 opponents to win the Sports Heads trophy.
The compact field creates frequent rebounds. Shots can bounce from the ground, players, and other parts of the play area, so possession can change almost immediately after an attempted goal.
The core mechanics revolve around headers and volleys rather than realistic team tactics. Mousebreaker's original description specifically presents the game as arcade football focused on those two actions.
The original Mousebreaker instructions confirm the Arrow Keys for movement and jumping and the Spacebar for volleys.
| Player | Movement | Jump | Kick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player 1 | A / D | W | Spacebar |
| Player 2 | Left / Right Arrows | Up Arrow | P |
The local two-player version uses separate keyboard layouts so both players can compete on the same keyboard.
Your character's oversized head is more than a visual joke. It creates a large surface for blocking and redirecting the ball, making aerial positioning one of the most important parts of Sports Heads Soccer.
When the ball drops from above, moving underneath it before jumping usually gives you more control than jumping immediately. A well-timed header can send the ball over an opponent or interrupt an incoming attack.
Volleys give you a more direct attacking option. The Spacebar kick is useful when the ball is beside your character or dropping into striking range. Because the field is small, even a defensive clearance can quickly become a shot at the opposite goal.
Power-ups appear during Sports Heads matches and introduce an unpredictable element beyond basic soccer movement. To activate one, you generally need to hit its icon with the ball.
These effects can alter match conditions rather than simply adding points. Depending on the power-up, the advantage or disadvantage may affect the player, ball, or way the current exchange develops. This means aiming at a power-up can sometimes be worth more than immediately shooting toward goal.
However, chasing every power-up can create problems. If reaching one requires giving up your defensive position, your opponent may get an open route toward goal. Consider the score and ball position before changing direction.
Defense in Sports Heads Soccer is mainly about positioning. With only one character protecting the net, moving too far forward can leave a large opening behind you.
When the opponent has the better angle, move back toward your goal instead of contesting every ball immediately. Your large head can act as an effective barrier against high shots, while staying between the opponent and the goal makes low attacks harder to finish.
Jumping defensively also requires timing. Jump too early and the ball may pass underneath you. Jump too late and the opponent may already have redirected it over your head.
Do not simply follow the ball's current position. Watch its direction and move toward the likely landing point. This gives you more time to prepare a header or kick.
Jumping can win aerial challenges, but it temporarily limits your ability to change position. Stay on the ground when the ball is low or when you need to react quickly to a rebound.
You do not need to kick every incoming ball. Sometimes standing or jumping directly in its path is enough to send it away from your goal and force the opponent to rebuild the attack.
A ball bouncing high above the opponent can create an opportunity to move underneath it and head it toward goal. Watch rebounds closely instead of immediately retreating after your first shot fails.
Power-ups can influence the match, but position still matters. If the ball and your opponent are already near your goal, defending should take priority over chasing an item elsewhere on the pitch.
A kick is easier to use effectively when you are properly lined up with the ball. Repeatedly pressing the attack button while standing on the wrong side of the ball can simply send possession back toward your own goal.
In single-player mode, Sports Heads Soccer puts you against computer-controlled opponents. The original challenge contains 10 opponents, with the Sports Heads trophy waiting after you defeat the full lineup.
The game also supports local two-player competition. Both players share the keyboard but use different controls, turning the same simple soccer mechanics into a direct match where recognizing the other player's habits becomes important.
Against another person, repeated patterns become easier to punish. If your opponent always jumps as soon as the ball goes high, for example, waiting for them to commit can create space underneath or behind them.

Yes. Power-ups appear during matches and can be activated by hitting them with the ball, introducing temporary changes that can affect the current exchange.

Sports Heads Soccer turns soccer into a compact duel where almost every bounce creates another attacking or defensive decision. Good results come from anticipating where the ball will land, timing headers instead of jumping automatically, using kicks from useful angles, and knowing when to stay close to your goal. Power-ups add unpredictability, but positioning remains the foundation of winning consistently against the computer or another player.
