Granny is a horror escape game where you search a locked house, solve item puzzles, stay quiet, hide from Granny, and escape within five days.
Granny is a first-person survival horror and escape game where you wake up trapped inside a locked house and have five days to find a way out. You must search rooms for keys and tools, solve interconnected puzzles, avoid traps, and stay out of Granny’s sight. Noise is one of the game’s central mechanics: dropping an object or stepping on a creaking floor can alert Granny and send her toward your location.
The game was developed and published by DVloper. The official PC release also expands the escape formula with several difficulty settings, alternate escape methods, defensive weapons, pets and other hazards, giving you more to manage than simply unlocking the front door.
You begin inside a bedroom with the house locked around you. The main exit is secured by several different mechanisms, so escaping requires much more than locating one key. Important objects are scattered through bedrooms, hidden spaces, the basement, garage, backyard, and other parts of the property.
Granny patrols the house while you search. She reacts to sounds and will investigate when an object hits the floor or when you cross certain noisy floorboards. If she sees you, she begins chasing you. Hiding spots such as wardrobes and beds can help break contact, provided she does not see you entering them.
The house also contains bear traps and other hazards. This makes exploration a balance between searching thoroughly and avoiding unnecessary movement that could reveal where you are.
Granny has extremely sensitive hearing. The official description specifically warns that dropping something or walking across a creaking floor can make her run toward the source of the sound.
This means an object is not only a puzzle tool. It can also affect Granny’s movement. Dropping an item in the wrong room can expose your position, while deliberately making noise away from an objective can potentially pull Granny toward another part of the house.
Before dropping something, think about whether you actually need to release it there. If another item is required, choosing where to leave your current object can make the difference between a quiet exchange and a chase.
Some locations around the house let you hide from Granny. The official versions include places such as wardrobes and beds, while the PC release also contains other hiding spaces.
Hiding works best before Granny has clearly seen where you went. Entering a hiding spot directly in front of her does not guarantee protection. Instead, use doors, corridors, and corners to break line of sight before committing to a hiding place.
Listen after hiding. Her footsteps can help you determine whether she is still nearby or has moved into another area. Leaving too early can put you directly back into her path.
Progress in Granny is based on finding objects and understanding where they belong. The main door contains multiple barriers, and different tools are needed to remove or unlock them. The house also contains items associated with other puzzles and escape routes.
This creates chains of objectives. One key may open a container holding another useful object. A tool might remove an obstacle that gives access to a new part of the house. An item that appears useless when first discovered may become important once you find the mechanism connected to it.
Remembering where you leave objects is therefore important. Carrying capacity is limited, so you will frequently need to put one item down in order to take another.
The front door is the most obvious escape route, but it is protected by several locks and obstacles. You need to explore the house and locate the correct combination of keys and tools before it can be opened.
The garage provides another major escape option. An old car can be repaired using several components found around the house. Once the necessary work is completed and the garage can be opened, the vehicle provides another way to leave.
Later official updates also expanded the house with another area and an additional escape method, so the current game contains more than the original front-door objective.
Granny includes weapons that can temporarily stop her. The official Steam description confirms that two different weapon types can be found inside the house, but hitting Granny only disables her for a limited period.
Weapons are therefore better treated as tools for creating a safe window rather than a permanent solution. Temporarily removing Granny from your route can give you enough time to search a dangerous room, retrieve an object, or complete part of an escape puzzle.
On the PC version, weapons such as the crossbow or shotgun are fired with the left mouse button when loaded.
The official PC release uses keyboard movement with mouse-controlled viewing. The following inputs are documented for the PC version.
Granny includes five difficulty options: Practice, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme. Practice mode removes Granny from the normal pursuit loop, allowing you to explore the house and experiment with puzzles more freely, although the house is not completely free of hazards.
Practice mode is useful when you want to learn how rooms connect or understand where particular puzzle mechanisms are located. Once the layout becomes familiar, higher difficulties make route planning and noise management more important.
Because you cannot simply carry every object at once, place useful tools in locations that are easy to revisit. Dropping everything in random rooms makes later puzzle steps harder and also creates unnecessary noise.
Since Granny investigates noises, sound can work against her. If you need access to one side of the house, creating a controlled distraction somewhere else can give you a window to move.
Granny can place bear traps. Check the floor around doorways and frequently traveled paths instead of running blindly through an area she recently searched.
A hiding place is much more useful after you break line of sight. Turning a corner or creating distance before hiding reduces the chance of Granny following your movement directly to the hiding spot.
Trying to complete several unrelated puzzle chains at once can make item management confusing. Concentrate on the tools required for your chosen escape route, then change plans when you discover an item that makes another route significantly easier.
If you successfully stop Granny with a weapon, do not spend the entire safe period wandering. Use those moments to complete a task in an area that is normally difficult to search.

You need to search Granny’s house, solve its item-based puzzles, and complete an escape route before your available days run out.
You normally have five days. Getting caught or otherwise knocked out advances you to the next day, and running out of attempts leads to game over.
Yes. Noise is a core mechanic. Dropping an object or stepping on a creaking floor can cause Granny to investigate that location.

Yes. The PC version includes Practice, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme difficulty settings.
Granny turns a locked-house escape puzzle into a stealth challenge where every item, sound, and route matters. Learning the layout helps, but surviving consistently also requires knowing when to hide, where to leave important tools, how to manipulate Granny with noise, and which escape objective you are currently pursuing. With only a limited number of days available, careful exploration is far more effective than running through the house without a plan.
