Play Fireboy and Watergirl by solving Forest Temple puzzles, collecting elemental diamonds, using switches, and guiding both heroes to their exits.
Fireboy and Watergirl is a cooperative puzzle-platform game where two elemental heroes must escape a temple filled with dangerous liquids, moving platforms, switches, doors, and collectible diamonds. Each character has different strengths, so completing a level requires more than reaching the end with one hero. Fireboy and Watergirl must both survive and enter their matching exit doors. The Forest Temple adventure contains 32 levels that can be played alone or with a friend.
Fireboy and Watergirl 1: Forest Temple was created by Oslo Albet and originally released as a Flash game in November 2009. It was later converted to HTML5, allowing the same cooperative puzzle design to continue working in modern browsers.
Every level places both characters inside a compact temple chamber. The route to the exits may be blocked by pools, raised platforms, closed doors, or mechanisms that must be activated in a particular order. One character may need to stand on a button while the other crosses a bridge, pushes an object, or reaches a lever.
The defining mechanic is the difference between the two heroes. Fireboy can safely cross lava but cannot touch water. Watergirl can move through water but is defeated by lava. Green liquid is dangerous to both characters, so neither hero can cross it directly.
These opposing abilities turn ordinary platforming into a coordination puzzle. A route that is safe for Fireboy may be impossible for Watergirl, while another section may require Watergirl to move first and activate a path for her partner.
The opening levels introduce these rules gradually. Later rooms combine several mechanisms and hazards, requiring players to determine the correct sequence before moving. A poorly timed jump or an incorrectly positioned character can force the level to restart.
The separate control layouts allow two people to share one keyboard. A solo player can also manage both characters, although controlling simultaneous movements becomes more demanding in later puzzles.
Floor buttons normally remain active only while a character or movable object is pressing them. Before stepping away, check whether the button controls a door, lift, or platform needed by the other hero.
Levers change the state of connected mechanisms. Unlike temporary buttons, they may leave a platform or doorway in its new position after the character moves away. Watch the level carefully to see what changes when a lever is pulled.
Some routes depend on elevators or platforms controlled from another part of the room. Move the first character into position, activate the mechanism with the second, and avoid leaving either hero trapped on the wrong side.
Boxes can hold buttons down, create stepping points, or help a character reach a higher platform. Push them carefully because moving a box into a corner may make it difficult to recover.
Red and blue diamonds provide an additional objective beyond escaping. Fireboy collects red diamonds, while Watergirl collects blue ones. The official game description also emphasizes completing levels efficiently and gathering the diamonds.
Before touching a switch, determine who needs to move through the connected doorway. Activating mechanisms randomly can separate the heroes or place a moving platform where neither character can reach it.
If a section contains water, send Watergirl ahead to inspect it or activate the next mechanism. Use Fireboy first when the route is blocked by lava. This reduces unnecessary jumps over hazards that one character can cross safely.
When a button must remain pressed, look for a box before leaving one hero behind. Placing an object on the button can free both characters to continue toward the exits.
Do not press several direction keys without checking which hero they control. When playing alone, move one character to a safe platform before switching attention to the other. This is especially important near green liquid.
First determine how both characters will reach the exits. Once the main puzzle is solved, collect any optional diamonds that can be reached without disrupting essential boxes, platforms, or switches.
Fireboy and Watergirl is designed around cooperation, but a second player is not required. In two-player mode, one person controls Fireboy while the other manages Watergirl. This makes simultaneous actions easier, but communication becomes essential when operating switches and moving platforms.
Solo play changes the challenge. One person must manage both sides of the keyboard, remember each hero’s position, and occasionally move them at nearly the same time. It is usually safer to complete actions in small stages rather than trying to move both characters continuously.
The Forest Temple established the elemental rules used throughout the series. Later Fireboy and Watergirl games introduce temples built around new puzzle systems, including light beams, icy surfaces, crystal portals, multiple elements, and magical fairies. Major entries include The Light Temple, The Ice Temple, The Crystal Temple, Elements, and Fairy Tales.
Fireboy and Watergirl in the Forest Temple contains 32 levels.
Yes. A solo player can control both heroes using the Arrow keys and WASD controls. The game can also be shared by two players using the same keyboard.
Fireboy collects red diamonds, while Watergirl collects blue diamonds.
The current attempt ends and the level must be restarted. Both characters need to survive and reach their respective exits.
The series was created by independent developer Oslo Albet. The original Forest Temple game was released in 2009.
Fireboy and Watergirl turns simple running and jumping into a two-character logic challenge. Success depends on understanding the elemental rules, examining each mechanism, and moving the heroes in the correct order. Plan the route before acting, use each character where their element is safe, and make sure both reach the doors before considering the Forest Temple level complete.
